PUNTING TO CLEAR DEFENSIVE ZONE
Tactical Problem: When to use the punt in a game situation.

  • Proper punt technique:

    • -foot work / step approach
    -grip of ball
    -contact with foot
    -drop ball to kick, don't throw it in the air
  • Catchers:

    •  -learn to position themselves under the ball and
      to cushion it into their body when they catch it.
     
 
 

 
Organizational Points: 
  • Emphasize the importance of accuracy over distance.
  • '500 UP' - Kicker works on kick technique, while people in the field learn how to receive a punt.
  • Points for each punt must be at least 100 points to ensure that everyone gets a chance to punt. 
Extensions:
  • If students are not getting a turn to punt, give each student 10 attempts before having to swtich.
  • Extend playing field so that punter practices kicking for distance.
